Spending a week with Hope Shines at Rebero Orphanage was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. Although exhausting at times, I wouldn’t change it for the world. These children are the most loving and sensitive kids you will ever meet. From the second you walk through the gates, you are surrounded by affection. Having only volunteered with animals in the past, I was unsure how I would cope with children, but I was made to feel so welcome by Hope Shines, that within an hour of arriving in Rwanda I was confident I was in great hands! I would highly recommend this experience to anyone who is considering it in the future, and I am already planning my next trip out! A big THANK YOU for a wonderful adventure!

This was my first volunteer experience outside the United States, and I did not know what to expect.  Once I got to Rwanda and ultimately the orphan center, I quickly realized that this was going to be a life-changing experience!  It was amazing to see how much need there is…. I also fell in love with all the kids!  They are truly a blessing, as they say in Rwanda, and a blessing to me!  I can’t wait to return!

My Hope Shines experience was truly unbelievable and unlike anything I could have imagined. From the first moment we met the children until the last day of the camp I was amazed at how easy it was to fall in love with them. They were so friendly and clung to us like they were truly grateful that we were there. I loved the entire experience and would do it all over again in a heartbeat.
